IPTV vs OTT: What's the Difference?
These terms get used almost interchangeably, but there's a real technical distinction worth knowing.
OTT: "Over the Top" of existing infrastructure
OTT describes any video delivered over the public internet, bypassing traditional cable/satellite infrastructure entirely — Netflix, YouTube, and IPTV services are all technically OTT in this broad sense.
IPTV: a more specific, managed model
IPTV traditionally refers to a more structured service — live channels delivered via a managed system with an EPG, often (though not always) over a somewhat more controlled network path than general internet traffic.
Why the line has blurred
